Windows xp freezes at starting up

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Hi, thank you for responding. I have not added any new hardware and added a game from a reputable sight where I am a member and have downloaded all of my games from.

I have scanned for spyware I believe it also looks for Malware and have done a full virus scan. I can reboot in safe mode and restore it but I dont know what to look for to find the problem. I had it working for the past few days but it froze again yesterday. You can access Computer Management and have a look at the event viewing for events relating to the freezing. In Safe Mode see if you can clear up startup program, temp files and services which are starting. When starting up my computer it is freezing on the black "Windows XP" screen.

Windows XP Freezing on Desktop after start up. Thread starter MetalRocker Start date Jul 6, Status Not open for further replies. Hey, This problem just started yesterday, before that everything had been fine. My copy of Windows XP freezes after loading onto the desktop. Everything freezes, I can't move the mouse or use the keyboard.

Programs that might be in the middle of loading just freeze. I've tried running a virus scan but of course the PC freezes before it starts running. I once left it for over an hour and it remained frozen. Any ideas on how I can solve this problem? Can you boot into safemode? And if so, does the computer still freeze once loaded. Well the issue really seems to be that it freezes after a certain period of time, in other words I can get past the load screen with out it freezing, so now I can't even get into safe mode.

I'd say the obvious problem is a virus but I have no idea how I'd go about fixing that problem. So its the windows loading screen that it is now freezing on? What directory do you run it from? I realized I do have a problem with the new GB drive slave not getting fully recognized, so I guess this motherboard only support up to GBs like my old Gateway.

I will try creating logical drives, or finding a cheap adapter card like I did for the Gateway, but freeze started before this drive was added. Looking forward to more production and less maintenance.

Regarding these freezing XP PCs, I am just wondering when is the best time to decide it is time to "punt" and either get rid of a PC or upgrade from the motherboard on up? There doesn't seem to be a definitive way to determine the motherboard problem until you have exhausted every other possibility.

VirtualCowboy hi, to answer your last question, it depends on a few factors. Cost, What are your needs, business, gaming, downloading music, hobby. From all I have read you have practically replaced your entire system less the Mobo. If you replace your mobo you will have to do a new install and you will never know what your real problem is on your current system. You might get a message about having to restart your system "DO IT".

You will get a message to restart "DO IT" post back your results:. Hi germ-x, and thank you for the advice. I didn't realize how slow my old stuff was.

I would like all my machines, expect the old Gateway P4 2.
